Through the Broken Telescope

TELESCOPE

My friend he’s found a telescope
For taking his pictures of home
Round this town nobody looks up from the ground
Somehow he’s going to turn her life around
Holding on to a promise that begins and ends before and after him
Taking notes from the lessons they didn’t learn
Living larger than the lives that you’ve been shown
So much wiser than the years that you’ve watched turn
My friend he’s found a comrade
Playing guitar in his music box
Coming in above the static they dance to
Listening for a voice that calls from home
And a dream that’s just around the block
CHORUS:
Living larger than the lives that you’ve been shown
So much wiser than the years you’ve watched turn
Running further than these chains will let you move
Earned a token for a cloud that leaves tonite
And a telescope to see your life unfold
-They gave him a broken pen and tattered paper
He turned it into moon and stars
Every clock that’s on these walls
Takes a hundred years to turn
Writing about more sailboats
And visions they can’t see
All sleeping drunken on the shores
While the ships are coming in
And setting out again
He’s hanging by the silver lining
Of a cloud that leaves tonite
CHORUS:
Living larger than the lives that you’ve been shown
So much wiser that the years you’ve watch burn
Running further than these chains will let you move
Earned a token for a cloud that leaves tonite
And a telescope to see your life unfold

Prayer for Those with Broken Telescopes

Father of Visions and Visionaries

We come to you asking for the return of our Visions
Because all of our Telescopes were broken in the Years
We come to you seeking the Origin of our Dreams
Because they have left us for somewhere we have yet to have Gone
We come to you asking for Open Windows
Because ours have been dewed over with these Tears
We come to you for the delivery again of all you have gave Us
We had forgotten to hold them close and so they Disappeared

“Where there is no divine vision people cast off restraint,
but blessed is the one who keeps Torah.” Proverbs 29:18 TLV
